This essay seeks to order, analyze, and evaluate the production of manuscript illumination brought together under the name of the Master of the Ghent Privileges. Then demonstrate that a decisive majority of the works ascribed to the Privileges Master are the products of two allied ateliers directed by the Privileges Master that produced illumination in his signature style. Lastly, establishing that a second illuminator whom the author has named the Ghent Gradual Master succeeded the Privileges Master around 1460 and directed the workshops in Ghent and Tournai up until about 1475. The miniatures, codicology, liturgical use, initial and border styles, and provenance are provided as evidence to the arguments demonstrated by the author. 24 color illustrations, 234 b&w illusrations, bibliography, and list of comparative illustrations.
