In 1907, Stauffer's two-volume set of this work was published in a limited edition of 350 copies. It provided biographical sketches and a checklist of works of over seven hundred American engravers. Stauffer's work was based on the prints themselves and he realized there were omissions. In 191 7, Fielding published a supplement in a numbered, limited edition of 220 copies. In 1920, Gage added an Artist Index to these important volumes. This reprint is the first time these four scarce volumes have appeared together as a set. New.
