Illustrated Children's Books.

(London): The British Library, (1995),

Reprint. octavo, pictorial wrappers. 80pp. The British Library, Item #15311

The period from the late 18th century to the 1920s was a 'golden age' for illustrated children's books. The author traces their development, from primitive Chap-book to sumptuously printed color gift book. Among the famous artists included are Randolph Caldecott, Kate Greenaway, and Walter Crane, along with anonymous illustrators popular in their own day. Beautifully illustrated in color and black and white. Very fine.
