Vol. 7 in the Battle of the Little Big Horn Series. The newspaper, “Winners of the West” was published monthly and for a while bi-monthly from December 1923 through January 1944 in St. Joseph, Missouri. Its main purpose was to organize the Veterans of Indian Wars into an association to fight for the pension concerns of the veterans and their widows. It, however, did much, much more. It gave a voice to the soldiers who fought on the frontier – the men who made it safe for pioneers to build homes and lives in the West. The stories related in this newspaper include Indian Wars before and after the Civil War, stories from Florida to California and every place in between. Their stories that include George Armstrong Custer and the Seventh Cavalry during their time in the West are the ones we are concerned with in this work.
