Typed letter, signed by Maj. Gen. A. F. Howard on letterhead: "Headquarters Sixth Marine Division Office of the Commanding General" and is dated 8 January 1946. Howard was the Island commander at Guadalcanal and New Guinea July 1943-June 1944. He notes that he has enclosed a Sixth Marine Division shoulder patch and proceeds to describe the meaning of its various symbols and importance. The patch is not present. A very nice letter. In fine condition.
