Mary Hyde Eccles' book collecting accomplishments are renowned in American and Britain alike. She and her first husband, Donald Hyde, formed remarkable collections of Samuel Johnson and Oscar Wilde. After her 1984 marriage to Viscount Eccles she continued to collect and with her husband founded the Eccles Centre for American Studies at the British Library. The seventeen essays gathered include a play; obituaries; essays on Johnson, Boswell, and Mrs. Thrale; autobiographical selections; travelogues; and a family history. A very handsome volume designed by Jerry Kelly. ISBN bar code label on back cover, two very small scuff marks to front cover, else a fine copy.
