Plates 39, 40 and 40bis bear inscription: "Portions of the Planisphere of Henricus A Langren, published in Amsterdam, c.1598-1600. Reprint of an unknown edition of Plancius' Planisphere." Plate 40ter bears inscription: "Only sheet known of a second edition of Plancius' Planisphere." Volume 2 of a 5 volume set. The front pastedown has caused offsetting to the flap folds and a 9" x 9" portion of the first page.
