Hodges served with the British Army at Gallipoli and in Egypt then volunteered for the RFC and balloon observation training in 1916. After training he was posted to No.25 Balloon Section, 2nd Balloon Wing in Flanders leading to a lifetime of affection for balloons. He gives a vivid impression of being up in a balloon, the beauty of viewing the world from that height, and funny episodes during his training. Numerous photographic illustrations. A bit dusty on top edge of text block, otherwise a fine, clean copy. Jacket not price clipped.
