
Autograph Letter, signed, written on two 3" x 5" index cards, dated 2.24.63. A third card notes that Williams was with the 17th Aero Squadron and flew Curtis Jenny's, Sopwith Pups and Sopwith Camels. Signed in full.

Addressed to a World War One collector who had written requesting his autograph and description of planes flown. Williams was was assigned to the 17th "American" Aero Squadron attached to the Royal Air Force. In July and August 1918, Williams piloted a Sopwith Camel fighter in combat over France. He downed four enemy airplanes and one balloon to qualify as Wisconsin's first combat "ace". Wounded on his last mission, Williams landed safely, but was hospitalized for the rest of the war.
