Boston: Houghton Mifflin, (1936),

First Edition. octavo, cloth in dust jacket. 259 pp. Houghton Mifflin, Item #33155

Illustrated. Rosenbach autobiography chronicles the golden age of American bookselling when big-city dealers helped the wealthy collect on a grand scale. Among the subjects covered are "Letters that We Ought to Burn" (a delightful chapter on rare and indiscreet love letters)< "Old Mystery Books," "The Trail of Scarlet, Extra! Extra!" (the story of the broadside which led directly to our modern tabloid), "Earliest Christmas Books," " Mighty Women Book Hunters, " "The Libraries of the Presidents of the United States," and "Munchausen and Co." (an amusing expose of the frailities of certain legendary characters). Dust jacket soiled with chipping at extremities, not price clipped. Heavy foxing at front and back outside hinges. Front and back pastedown endpapers heavily foxed. Surprisingly, even with the foxing and damp staining, this copy does not have a musty order.

Price: $50.00
