Photo is signed by eight of the crew members who shot down Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto, Comander-in-Chief of the Japanese Navy during World War II. On 13 April 1943 American monitoring stations on the Pacific intercepted a top-secret message from the Japanese. Unknown to the Japanese the US had broken their coded message that the Admiral would be making an inspection tour of advance bases, inlcuding Bain on Bougainville, Solomon Islands. The decision was made by Admiral Nimitz to order Yamamoto's death. On 18 April 1943 Mahor John W. Mitchell led two leading elements of eight P-38s which inlcuded Doug Canning, D. C. Goerke, Tom Lamphier, Rex Barber, Ray Hine, Besby L. Holmes and Jacobson, all of the 339th Squadron. Signed by Goerke, Barber, Canning, Holmes, Mitchell, Roger Ames, Lou Kittel and Julius "Jack" Jacobson. Very fine condition.
